The Peninsula -- FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised Qatar’s infrastructure progress, along with the massive potential of Qatar 2022, during a whistle-stop tour of the country today, which included a visit to Al Wakrah Stadium and a helicopter tour of the remaining seven venues.
Infantino visited Al Wakrah Stadium, which will be ready soon and will host matches through till the quarter-finals. Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), Hassan al-Thawadi, accompanied the FIFA chief during the visit.

“An impressive stadium. A stadium which speaks to the football fan. When you enter, you feel how imposing it is. The progress made here to kick off the World Cup is great. It’s fantastic. Every time when I visit there is something new, it’s really promising,” Infantino said.
“Today, we welcomed FIFA President Gianni Infantino to Al Wakrah Stadium, where he was briefed on the progress of the venue, which is due to be completed soon,” SC tweeted.

Infantino used the Doha Metro to travel from the West Bay to the stadium and the whole journey took just 20 minutes. SC thanked Qatar Rail for the support.
“Thank you @qrc_official for supporting the visit and sharing the latest news on your project,” they tweeted.
